What emotions, images and associations does the Moon evoke for you? Do you associate it with the feminine, the hidden? The rhythm of the tides or the ever-changing nature of our own moods and emotions? Do the full moon nights make you feel “weird”?
Whatever our personal relationship with the Moon, if any, it is crucial to the existence of all life on our planet. Our satellite exerts a powerful gravitational pull on Earth, and stabilizes its axial tilt. Without the Moon, we’d have brutal seasonal variations, a much shorter day, and possibly no life on the planet at all.
The Moon is intimately associated with water, due to its effect on the tidal cycle. But since our body is also primarily made of water, the Moon influences our own fluid body: the lymphatic system, the spinal fluid, as well as menstrual cycles in women. The plants and animal life also have a direct relationship with lunar cycles.
